In Clifford Odets's 1941 play, a naive husband whose wife is suffering from what we now call postpartum depression foolishly does his lonely best buddy a favor by inviting him to come live with them. Why a theater would choose to stage this turgid domestic drama in 2006 is a mystery. But the actors assembled by John Mossman prove adept at giving their characters' stilted speeches plausible subtexts. They also declaim their lines with full-out passion yet never lose their artistic equilibrium--though a few would be well advised, given the intimate performance space, to refrain from breaking into real tears. Through 5/7: Thu 7:30 PM, Fri-Sat 8 PM, Sun 5 PM, Artistic Home, 1420 W. Irving Park, 773-404-1100, $17-$22.
