Re: “Walnut Room

The Walnut Room is at its best when it is bustling with crowds of families dining around the Christmas tree. At this time of year, the ambiance provided by the tree and the windows and the overall weariness of shoppers and their children make this a great place for lunch or dinner. However, during other times of the year, while the room is still impressive, the waitstaff is bored, the chefs obviously aren't checking on the freshness of the produce and if you happen to want an early dinner starting one half hour before their closing time, they aren't shy about asking you to hurry up and decide what you want because they want to go home. So, I would reccommend trying some other Loop venu for lunch and saving the trip to the Walnut room for a special occaison in December.

The butcher block/ceramic tables made for a very homey feeling. The huge wood pizza oven and open trattoria style was very appealing and warm and the service was excellent. The menu was a little short on variety, but was augmented with a lengthy specials list. The wood oven pizza is excellent, but don't expect Pizza Hut style choices. These thin crust pizzas are made with very little red sauce. The Linguine with Clams and Tomato sauce was a little too spicy, but the portions were more than adequate. Overall, I thought the price/value ratio was a little low and while I wouldn't hesitate to go along for another visit, it wouldn't be my first choice for dining out.
