Technology has sped up pop culture so dramatically that the public seems to expect musicians to develop fully realized aesthetics by the time they upload their first songs to SoundCloud. Few can claim to have sorted that out even after several album cycles, but Chhavi Nanda, aka Chippy Nonstop, seems to know what she's about already, though she's been making music for less than two years. The Oakland pop artist has a total package of musical personality: in the artwork for her recent self-released EP, Money Dance 101, she nonchalantly strikes a pose, surrounded by an energetically goofy collage (GIF-ready clip art, stacks of cash, Michelle Obama doing the Dougie), and her eclectic, dance-friendly tracks flirt with international club styles, a la the output of Diplo's Mad Decent label. Mad Decent's site is one of many to show Nanda some love, though even her fans can admit she still has some growing to do: her half-rapped, half-sung vocals aren't quite as brazen as her lyrics and persona. Of course, at this rate that could change in a few months. —Leor Galil Shisa, Swaguerilla, Teen Witch Fan Club, Baby Bamboo, Ghoast Visuals, the Sdust crew, and Clairey Pear & Molly Soda spin.
