Chicago Toy and Game Fair

When: Saturdays, Sundays. Continues through Nov. 23 2008
Price: $5-$10
Star Wars stormtroopers (“501st Legion, Vader’s Fist,” to be exact) will be patrolling this playground of the latest fun stuff on the market, but if Star Wars is too of-the-moment for you, you can always retreat to the Renaissance Knights Chess Pavilion, where visitors can play a match against members of “Chicago’s premiere chess organization.” Visitors can also take on comers in Euro-style board games--Jay Tummelson of Rio Grande Games will be there discussing those high-end, strategy-heavy pastimes. Reps from Mattel, Hasbro, and other manufacturers will judge a Young Inventor Challenge, and some of the pros attending the Toy and Game Inventor Expo (Thu-Fri 11/20-11/21 at Navy Pier), including “master builders” from Kapla, will discuss what it is exactly that they do. And be a mensch and donate a new, unwrapped toy to the Toy Industry Association’s drive for needy kids--many of the exhibitors will be offering discounts.
