The tap world is small, and bios for dancers participating in Chicago Human Rhythm Project's Juba! showcase often read like family trees. Take rising tap star Michelle Dorrance. A Stomp! cast member since 2007, she made her first Juba! appearance in 1998 with the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble—founded by her mentor, Gene Medler, who'll be one of four people receiving Juba! Awards this year for advancing the form. You can catch Dorrance—a personable performer in videos I've seen—on Thursday, when she'll share the bill with Fernando Barba of Brazil's Barbatuques, Jakari Sherman of Step Afrika!, Swiss artist Lukas Weiss (who specializes in juggling while tapping), and several youth ensembles. Saturday's show features local companies: the Cartier Collective, Chicago Tap Theatre, Jump Rhythm Jazz Project, Jus'Listen, MADD Rhythms, and CHRP's resident ensemble, Bam! Wednesday's lineup is heavy on veterans like Dianne "Lady Di" Walker, Sam Weber, and CHRP founder Lane Alexander. —Laura Molzahn
