Bar serving specialty grilled cheese sandwiches, snacks like fried pickles and cheese curds, and cheeps hots.

Our Review

Its walls the color of American cheese, this Belmont Avenue counter-service restaurant comprises two outsize concepts that will seem ingenious to the inebriate. First, the menu’s primary entree is grilled cheese in a half dozen or so preparations, all on fat slices of sourdough or Texas toast. We tried the zippy Jalapeño Popper, topped with peppers, cheddar, cream cheese, and bacon, and served with chipotle mayo for dipping, and the Melt—American, chihuahua, and cheddar, plus chicken, bacon, Thousand Island, tomato, and pesto mayo. Shoving these alcohol-absorbing grease bombs in your face isn’t unsatisfying, though bland sides like mac ’n’ cheese and tomato soup leave much desired. The second conceit is a bar where every drink is four dollars. Even the good stuff: when my companion ordered me a Makers on the rocks, the bartender started preparing a high-ball glass and apologized—this would be slightly more expensive. But the price went back down when it was clarified that just a shot would do (ice is $2 extra).
