To the editors:

Enclosed is the current Metra/Heritage Corridor train schedule which you might want to give to David B. Sutton, the author of the article "79 Cents" in your Feb. 17th issue.

As you can see, there is no 9:30 train to Lockport, either A.M. or P.M. Also the fare to Lockport, which is in Zone G, is not the $4.65 figure given in the article, even allowing for the 5% increase that went into effect Feb. 1st.

Either Mr. Sutton was conned on the street when he believed the line he was given, or he is trying to con his readers with his own line of fiction. In either case it is lousy journalism.

If he really thought the story on the street was true, he should have taken the time to verify the train time and fare before writing his article trying to get people to feel guilty about not giving money to every street hustler with a semibelievable line. If, on the other hand, the article was made up out of the whole cloth, then he or you should have labeled it as a piece of fiction and not tried to pass it off as a street scene vignette.
