Chair | Performing Arts Review | Chicago Reader

Sometimes a chair is just a chair. In Chris Churchill's metatheatrical comedy, two women and three men play audience members who go to increasingly absurd lengths to interpret the meaning behind a single chair placed on a bare stage. Call it "Five Characters in Search of a Point." Ultimately Churchill manages to make the search for any type of meaning or truth seem ridiculous--especially in theater, where everything is fake in the first place. It's a bleak worldview, but this Co-Governors of Space production is amusingly snide. --Zac Thompson a Through 9/29: Fri-Sat 10 PM, Gorilla Tango Theatre, 1919 N. Milwaukee, 773-598-4549, $15.
