Drama, Suspense/Thriller
Screenwriter Larry Cohen (Phone Booth) has another of those slick premises that's either sublime or ridiculous, depending on how it's handled: a guy (Chris Evans) gets a call on his cell phone from a stranger (Kim Basinger) who claims she's been kidnapped and needs help. Once he's convinced it isn't a joke, he runs all over Los Angeles like a maniac to save her and her family. Unfortunately, Cohen and a crew of script doctors have thrown in some of the oldest cliches in the book (a cop nearing retirement, for heaven's sake), which call attention to the absurdity of it all. David R. Ellis directed this 2004 thriller; with Jason Statham.
