More Pet Names

Tell us about what you name stuff.

Hmm...I have a Macintosh at home that I named Knife, you know, "Knife the Mac," but the Mac at work is called Highlander; a fitting name for a fine Scottish machine.

I have a cockatiel that at last count has over 20 names (since I didn't like the name Scooter that came with it) depending on my mood and what it has done most recently, including: Yellow, Spud, Baby, Pumpkin, Bug, Beep, Peep (my sister calls it Mr. Peepers), Thing, Mutt, Puddin', Pretty, Angel, Precious, and Cat Food when it's really being a pain. When it fluffs out its cheek feathers I call it Isaac (after Asimov), when it fluffs its crest feathers I call it Don (after King), and when it sings particularly high notes I call it Michael (after Jackson).

My dog's name is Candy, sometimes I call her a putz.

My dead dog's name was Chester Molester because he would always try to romp on people's legs when he was little. My significant other, in time, becomes Honey Bunny Bunches of Oats. Isn't that corny?

My kitty is named XJ4 because I got drunk one night and was watching some sci-fi cyborg movie where everyone was named with an XJ plus an extension. She got four because she has four legs. Official name: Xylophone Jarvis 4maldehyde. My dog is Snert.

My cat's name is Bubba, because when we got her she was so small that she could hardly walk, so we gave her a big tough name. My mom calls her Bubbakitty. She says it's more feminine. I just say Bub.

I call my husband my butthole...it suits him.

My dog, who is at least part Shar-Pei, is named Fugly, because she is so f***ing ugly. She had the name when we got her and kept it because it fits her so well.

I have a black cat with a white spot on the end of her tail. We call her Sharpener because it looks like someone put her tail in a pencil sharpener.

I named a guitar after my mom. I call it the Love Goddess.

My goldfish are Sparkly, Daniel, and Dorothy. Every new fish gets a new name. I've had Goldy, FishFish, Edna, and Inky. I keep them about a year to a year and a half and trade them in for newer, smaller models.

My favorite cat was named Oopsy Daisy (Oopsy for short). I had her 17 years.

My car is named Franco, after Franco Harris from the Pittsburgh Steelers. I have many fond memories of him from those glorious Super Bowl years in the 1970s. He was always reliable and trustworthy, and a great player to boot.

My college car was named Martin. My roommate in college named her car Thelma. My husband's car (also his college car) is the Gray Ghost because it's dusty, gray, and dead (or should be).

I named my daughter Kai (rhymes with eye) specifically so that she would never have to endure the indignity of a nickname. Then my mother-in-law started calling her Miss K and my husband's friend started calling her Coyote (you have to say it aloud). So now I call her my Sweet Patootie.

Our mama calico gave birth to a beautiful longhaired grey calico. She was so small we named her Itty Bitty. She was really beautiful, so we called her Itty Bitty Pretty Kitty. When she got sick we called her Itty Bitty Shitty Kitty. And when she had kittens of her own, we called her Itty Bitty Titty Kitty.

My best friend had a dog named Butkus, kinda after Dick and kinda cuz it was a slobbering annoying dog. It was cute but got eaten by a coyote when her brother let the dog out and then got stoned and forgot about it.

OK, first there were the twin kittens named Ping and Pong, then came the two white kittens named Coke and Cain. Mom always called Cain first.

When my boyfriend calls me Honey, I call him Sugar, then he calls me Lemon, so I call him Pancake, and we start calling each other names of food till we get desperate enough to try to eat each other!
