Cathcart & Olson and Straight & Nappy

If these two sketch-comedy duos were pitted against each other, Rebecca Jackson and Pip Lilly's Straight & Nappy would win hands down. They demonstrate vigorous wit in their 25-minute set whether they're eulogizing someone at a funeral, testifying to God, or taking a shot at rising coffee prices. Jackson's heartfelt detour in a bit about depression is too much of a PSA, but otherwise the pair's forceful personalities and physical presence make even the routine material soar. Melissa Cathcart and Jay Olson are a strong team, working well together and exhibiting great charisma in their 30 minutes of sketches, which deal among other things with the medical use of marijuana, the Atkins diet, and a singular boob job. But even their best scene--elderly widows get undressed to "get it on"--doesn't have the same energy as Jackson and Lilly's work. Through 4/30: Sat 9 PM, Second City Training Center, Donny's Skybox Studio, Piper's Alley, 1608 N. Wells (fourth floor), 312-337-3992 or 877-778-4707.
