Re: “With a party, the Southtown Star newsroom disappears

Thank you for the attention to paid to Phil Kadner, who affected so much change, and inspired so many reporters and editors. I'm surprised and disappointed this article makes absolutely no mention of The Star, the Daily Southtown's sister newspaper with which it was merged in 2007 to become the SouthtownStar. Just as the DS served readers on the South Side and in the South and Southwest Suburbs, so did The Star serve so many in the South and Southeast Suburbs. It, too, had a dedicated and talented staff, and throughout the years maintained a hyper-local focus that is now the hallmark of successful suburban news. Please also remember The Star, the reporters and editors who served it for so long and then were laid off, the ones who worked to tell the story of the people of the Southland with pride, integrity and heart. Two reporters of the four who remain with the SouthtownStar came from The Star, including Susan Demar Lafferty, who uncovered the spending of village money at strip clubs by officials in New Lenox, and Casey Toner, who continues his work to uncover corruption at within Southland school district administration. I'm grateful for their continued work, along with the work of their colleagues who came from the Daily Southtown.
