Playwright Evan Guilford-Blake adds to the glut of scripts about families shattered by the untimely death of a child. Left in the care of her bitter, boozy grandmother Kate, ten-year-old Karessa fails to wake up one morning, triggering the return of her disfigured father, who abandoned her for a gay lover, and her paraplegic former ballerina mother, who was off on a book tour with her maybe-lesbian assistant. There's ample spite and ruefulness to go around, but it's never clear what Guilford-Blake hopes to dramatize with two hours of snipes, lamentations, and recriminations. The characters dig at the same wounds all evening without getting any deeper. Director James Heatherly's mismatched n.u.f.a.n. ensemble cast bring only occasional cohesion to the proceedings. --Justin Hayford
