Don't know where the bovine right-to-privacy folks are, but this is the second year that calf birthing is offered as an attraction at the Du Page County Fair, which opens Wednesday, July 24, and continues through Sunday, July 28. Five calves are expected to make their entrance during the five-day run of this year's "From Farm to You" extravaganza. Fair manager Ellen Sietmann says twins were born on opening day last year and "there were more people there than at the flag raising." For the fainthearted there's chick hatching--two dozen will poke their way into the world each day. Humans will perform as well, including the finalists in a countywide talent contest, competing at 2 on Saturday, July 27. There's also a watermelon-eating contest (4 PM, July 27); a 4-H livestock auction (7 PM, July 27); carnival rides; and Robinson's Racing Pigs, thundering down the track for an Oreo cookie (six performances daily). In the grandstand: Charlie Daniels Band at 8 on July 24; Ted Nugent at 8 on July 25; a tractor pull at 7 on July 26; two rodeos, at 2 and 7, on July 27; and two demolition derbies, also at 2 and 7, on July 28. It's all at the fairgrounds, 2015 W. Manchester in Wheaton, from 8 AM to 11 PM daily. Admission is $6, $3 for seniors, and includes general seating for the grandstand events; it's free for kids 8 and under. Check it out at www.dupagecountyfair.org or call 630-668-6636.
