Hundreds of photographs of Polish Jews--Orthodox and assimilated, rich and poor--are almost all that's left of a once-thriving society. Most of the cherished images in the Polish Museum's exhibit "And I Still See Their Faces: Images of Polish Jews" came from family photo albums; a few even survived the concentration camps with their owners. The show runs through February 28 at the Polish Museum of America, 984 N. Milwaukee (773-384-3352). Admission is $2, $1 for children and seniors.

Art accompanying story in printed newspaper (not available in this archive): two uncredited photos from the exhibit.
