Like much of Kim Dingle's art, this tattooed, porcelain pugilist in a frilly dress depicts what art critic Anne Ayres calls a "vision of a bizarre, ordinary, grotesque, cheerful, dubious, matter-of-fact American childhood." Priss is part of a series that revisits the American West and populates it with pugnacious, prepubescent girls. The Los Angeles-based painter, sculptor, and installation artist has a show of her work opening from 4 to 7 PM this Sunday at the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, Cobb Hall 418, 5811 S. Ellis. Dingle will give a free slide presentation of her work between 5 and 6 PM Monday at UIC's Gallery 400, 400 S. Peoria. Call 773-702-8670 for more information.

Art accompanying story in printed newspaper (not available in this archive): porcelain doll.
