Why did painter Mary Lou Zelazny cover this woman's wedding dress with bugs? We don't know the answer to that--any more than we know why Mary Ann Hickey "mummified" Barbie dolls by wrapping them in lace and netting, why Stephen Reynolds made a pair of men's briefs out of scrap metal, or why Leslie Wolfe armored evening bags with pointy crystal rods. But we do know that Zelazny's painting, titled La Puntura, is appearing along with the other above-mentioned works in "Garment as Metaphor," an exhibit by 15 sculptors, painters, and textile artists on the subject of clothes that runs through June 24 at the Suburban Fine Arts Center, 777 Central Avenue in Highland Park. A display of accessories and shoes by students at the School of the Art Institute accompanies the show. Gallery hours are 9 to 4 Monday through Saturday; 708-432-1888.
