Cabin Boy

A longtime writer for Late Night With David Letterman, Chris Elliott blew his shot at stardom with this atrocious 1994 seafaring comedy; as a young swell who joins the crew of a fishing boat called the Filthy Whore, he manages to suck the life out of every scene. Viewers determined to go down with the ship will be intermittently rewarded with choice supporting turns by Letterman (in his only big-screen role), Andy Richter (as a deranged sailor), and the star's old man, Bob Elliott (of the great radio comedy team Bob & Ray). Adam Resnick directed. PG-13, 80 min.
