Re: “Art Loop Open Reinstates Disqualified Artist

Seems the only one sided comments that are now coming out since Mr. Williams is reinstated are:
A) Working for ALO or CAC
B) Disgruntled artists who didnt make it to the top ten because their artwork isn't very good.
C) Disgruntled artists working for ALO or CAC who act like 6th graders (bama?)

Sorry it's not the outcome you wanted.
Suckers.

Bama.

You must have an association with ALO? Your ignorant rants obviously show that you know nothing about the local art community or about being an artist in general.

Just for the record:
"he never gave his text number to a classroom full of people" or "he didnt post the flier, his friends did."

Check out the great job Bad at Sports did on this:

After you read it. Then give another one of your shallow rants.

Re: “Disqualified Art Loop Open Finalist Cries Foul

As noted by toet2001 -
"i think this discussion is getting off topic. Bernard Williams did not break the rules as laid out by the art loop open rules. He did not publish or share his number in any way. Therefore he should not be disqualified. Simple."

They need to do the right thing. Reinstate him and his work.

Re: “Disqualified Art Loop Open Finalist Cries Foul

Your comment did not come off as a question and seemed more accusatory than being non-baised and trying to raise a valid point. Yes, it is a tourism campaign and similar to something like lollapalooza. I guess you could argue that theirs some interesting work to be viewed. But calling it a "silly art project" is no way cooler than saying this is a "tourism campaign" that was not well thought out.

The artists must pay a fee, hang their own work, wear a Hawaiian necklace (since if you go to three different places in the loop - you could win a trip to Hawaii!!!), bring all their friends and family to the loop (pay up to $40 for parking) and campaign hard only to be disqualified over a loop hole (no pun intended) about, as you seem to think that, "verbal communication constitutes publication in all 50 states". Wasnt this what the competition was about?

I agree with you, like any competition, those who didnt fare well will criticize, and those who win will sing its praises. Thankfully, I did not participate in this "silly" competition. I just feel (as many, many other Chicago artists feel via tweeter, facebook and the internet), that Mr. Williams was truly shafted.

Re: “Disqualified Art Loop Open Finalist Cries Foul

This project is not about "art", unfortunately, it is a tourism campaign.

Bernard Williams is known as a honest and stand up person, not to mention, a well known and hard working chicago artist.

Overall, i agree it should be about the artwork. However, it is not fair to make statements such as:
"didnt he also tell a classroom full of students what his text number was so that they could vote (presumably without attending the competition and viewing the piece itself?)", until you have all the facts.

I personally hope this throws mud in the face of ALO and show the chicago art community this silly project is not about the art.
