Buzz | Chicago Reader

Film noir screenwriter A.I.“Buzz” Bezzerides is the subject of Spiro N. Taraviras's 2005 talking-heads documentary. In his 90s, Buzz is energetic and brimming with anecdotes, though not all of them are revelatory—William Faulkner drank a lot, scriptwriters don't get enough credit, and Buzz “wanted to depict reality” (an earlier job as a truck driver helped). Instead of film clips we get trailers, and independent verification is provided for only some of his stories—Buzz says Robert Aldrich “didn't change a word” of his script for Kiss Me Deadly, but that's our only evidence. 120 min.
