Stockyards Theatre Project claims it's devoted to developing "great, deep, complicated female characters." So why are they so uninspired in this collection of four new one-acts? There are already plenty of superficial women who snipe at one another, betray other women, or are too eager to please in plays written by men. Although the female playwrights here occasionally have interesting insights or comic observations on gender relations and the evening's theme, time and age, mostly the plays lack an original point of view. Only a rant about the pressure to get pregnant in Amy Rath's Life Targets feels fresh, but Matthew Singletary's cast races through the dialogue. Through 9/13: Tue-Wed 7:30 PM, Stage Left Theatre, 3408 N. Sheffield, 773-936-7896, $15.
