Burnt

A rock-star chef (Bradley Cooper), trying for a professional comeback after bottoming out as an addict, hires on at a London restaurant, where he bickers with the haughty owner (Daniel Brühl) and jousts romantically with a talented sous chef (Sienna Miller). This foodie drama from screenwriter Steven Knight reheats some of the story elements from his last such enterprise, The Hundred-Foot Journey: there's a bitter rivalry with another restaurant and a lot of huffing and puffing about Michelin critics coming incognito to review the new place. The hero spends an inordinate amount of time screaming at his kitchen staff and hurling plates of food at the wall, which is more fun to watch than the canned relationships that constitute most of the movie. John Wells (August: Osage County) directed; with Omar Sy, Emma Thompson, and Uma Thurman.
