Welcome Natalie DiCristofano into the Chicago theatrical elite. She sends two groups of audience members through her ingenious environmental play, giving each group different scenes until throwing everyone together for payoff moments. The show follows a quartet of precocious, self-absorbed Catholic high school girls who dabble in Wicca and whose conscience-free leader, Abigail, harbors a murderous infatuation with her English teacher, John Proctor. Echoing Arthur Miller's The Crucible, DiCristofano's lurid, catty, and ultimately harrowing morality tale is as crafty and engrossing as Wayward Productions' sophisticated staging, which makes inspired use of every inch of Lutheran Memorial Church. DiCristofano not only wrote the gracefully intricate work; she also plays Abigail like a duplicitous force of nature. If she can juggle, she's got it all. —Justin Hayford
