A warning to fans of The Mighty Boosh, the wild sketch-comedy series that ran on the BBC from 2004 to '07: this offbeat British fantasy (2009) was written and directed by longtime series helmer Paul King and features cameos by three of the Boosh (Julian Barratt, Noel Fielding, Rich Fulcher), but its sensibility is softer, more whimsical, and not nearly as funny. Punctuated by lovely stop-motion animation sequences, it's a road movie of the mind in which a reclusive nebbish (Edward Hogg) and his wild-man pal (Simon Farnaby) tool around Europe and eventually wind up in Spain amid bullfighters and the like. The comedy along the way is hit-or-miss, though Boosh diehards won't want to miss Barratt as a grotesque tramp who sings the praises of dog milk, nurses at the teats of a dachshund, and conveniently wipes his mouth on her coat.
Director: Paul King
Producer: Mary Burke, Robin Gutch and Mark Herbert
Cast: Edward Hogg, Simon Farnaby, Verónica Echegui, Richard Ayoade, Julian Barratt, Noel Fielding, Rich Fulcher, Waleed Khalid, George Newton, Margaret Wheldon and Madeleine Worrall
