Unless the performers are extremely skilled or you're in on the joke, an evening of improv can feel a lot like watching someone else play a video game. There are a few good moments, maybe even some jokes, but not much of an overarching narrative, except for the one going on in the players' heads. And maybe the worst part is, all the fun is being had by someone else. A performance by Buffalo at the Annoyance reinforced the video game comparison: the troupe's shows include repetitive keyboard music to accompany the improvised songs. On the positive side, the troupe members, as well as the performers in the opening acts Caleb and the Donner Party, who made up most of the audience, seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. —Aimee Levitt
