This show from Nothing Special Productions is a modern-day Faust—if Mephistopheles had put on a three-piece suit and failed to explain why he was there. At first he doesn't even seem half bad, and ultimately, he still doesn't seem half bad. But he does make a deal with a lonely, vulnerable, heartbroken drunk. Like the rock-bottom hero, we never see the terms of this deal, but we guess he has a chance to win his girlfriend back or else get stuck in oblivion permanently. As the lovers bicker and fight, we follow him deeper and deeper, yet it doesn't get us any deeper into the minds of the characters, whose motivations are simultaneously obvious and obscurely drawn. I imagine playwright Tyler G. Powell was going for realistic representations of modern people with his banal dialogue, and in this he's done a credible job. —Jena Cutie
