Mud-wrestling grrrls challenge rather than titillate in Atalee Judy's brazen new De-evolution of Mudwoman: the mud is caked disgustingly on the performers and the wrestling tends toward Judy's kamikaze body-slam style. A fashion show-turned-rumble sets the terms as highly groomed and adorned models wearing Branimira Ivanova's strikingly outlandish couture face off against barefoot, muddy, nearly naked creatures. In the loose narrative, Mudwoman (a ferocious Mindy Meyers) "de-evolves" from divadom to a primordial state that Judy says is "more human, real, honest, true." On her way to her apotheosis, Mudwoman undergoes a series of "initiations"; that includes rejecting a suitor and engaging in a thrilling three-way battle with Judy and the piece's one mud-slathered man. Judy pokes fun at her own rageful technique, throwing a tantrum in one section; she describes another, a comic audition scene, as "gargoyle meets booty dancer."; Three actor "expositors" narrate, judge, and coach the goings-on. --Laura Molzahn
