Brazilian Bowl | Lakeview | South American | Restaurant
Grilled meats and Brazilian dishes, plus empanadas, smoothies, and gelato.

Our Review

"Everything at the restaurant is exactly what I had growing up at home," says Sao Paolo native Tony Ferreira, who uses his mother's recipes for the Brazilian specialties he offers at this Lakeview quick-service restaurant. Pas de quieijo, pliant balls of mozzarrella-stuffed cheese bread, are fried to order, as are freshly made croquettes like the chicken-stuffed coxinha or kibe, bulgur-crusted beef cigars. Feijoada is a warming black bean stew here made with bacon, pork, and sausage; sprinkled with farofa (toasted ground manioc); and served with rice, collard greens, salad, and a few slices of orange. Brazil's melting-pot makeup shows in dishes like beef Stroganoff, lasagna, and shrimp bobo, the last made with the African-derived ingredients dende oil and mashed yuca. Side dishes include bolinho de arroz (arancini-like rice balls) and fried yuca, and Ferreira's bowls feature rib-sticking meats like a beef roll, pork loin, steak, and turkey. Or there's a Brazilian-style burger, topped with ham, egg, bacon, and grilled tomato and onions, and a "Paulista dog," served cut in half with (once again) bacon and grilled tomato and onions, plus mozzarella, ketchup, mustard, and mayo. Follow with gelato and abandon all thought of bikinis.
