Brainwashed

Curt Jurgens struggles to retain his sanity in a Gestapo prison by training himself to play chess games in his head. Powerful, formally inventive direction by the underrated Gerd Oswald (A Kiss Before Dying) holds this 1961 international coproduction together, despite a plot line that must strain for feature length. With Claire Bloom.
