“THE GREATEST EVER CHICAGO BOOK” CONTEST

OFFICIAL RULES

1. HOW TO ENTER: NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN A PRIZE. A purchase will not increase your chances of winning. The “Greatest Ever Chicago Book” Contest (the “Contest”) is being sponsored by STM Reader, LLC (“Sponsor”). The Contest will run from November 24, 2014 through April, 12, 2015 (the “Contest Period”). The Contest Period will be divided into four separate rounds (each, a “Round”):

• November 19, 2014 through November 23, 2014 shall constitute the first Round (“Round One”);

• January 13, 2015 through January 18, 2015 shall constitute the second Round (“Round Two”);

• February 10, 2015 through March 1, 2015 shall constitute the third Round (“Round Three”); and

• March 10, 2015 through April 5, 2015 shall constitute the final round (“Final Round”)

For purposes of this Contest, each of the Rounds will start at 12:00 AM CT on the first day of the Round and end at 11:59 PM CT on the last day of such Round. You participate in the Contest by going to the web site located at www.chicagoreader.com, click on Announcing the Greatest Ever Chicago Book Tournament, register for the Contest, completely fill out an entry and voting form, and follow the directions to submit the form. You must complete all required fields on the online entry form. All online entrants must have a valid email address and phone number. Limit of one (1) entry per person per Round. All entries for any Round must be received by 11:59 PM CST on the date such Round ends

Entrants may not register with multiple email addresses nor may entrants use any other device or artifice to register multiple times or as multiple registrants. Any entrant who attempts to enter with multiple email addresses under multiple identities or uses any device or artifice to register/play multiple times will be disqualified and forfeits any and all prizes won, in Sponsor's discretion. Should multiple users of the same e-mail account enter the Contest and a dispute thereafter arise regarding the identity of the entrant, the authorized account holder of said e-mail account at the time of entry will be considered the entrant. “Authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, on-line service provider or other organization which is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses or the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual (and all of his or her entries) who tampers with the entry process. Automated entries are prohibited, and any use of automated devices will cause disqualification.

Sponsor and its parent, subsidiaries and affiliates are not responsible for late, lost, delayed, unclear, unintelligible, incomplete, misdirected, or ineligible entries which will be disqualified or for technical, hardware, or software malfunctions of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, incomplete, inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications caused by the sender, or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest which may limit the ability to play or participate, or by any human error that may occur in the processing of the entries in the Contest. The computer clock of Sponsor is the official timekeeping device of the Contest.

2. ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open to legal residents of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin aged 21 years or older, except employees of Sponsor, Barbara’s Bookstore, Apple Vacations, and their parents and affiliated companies, advertising agencies, and promotional partners, and relatives of and those living in the same household as such employees. For the purpose of this Contest, relatives are defined as spouse, mother, father, in-laws, grandmother, grandfather, brother, sister, children and grandchildren. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited.

3. SELECTION OF WINNERS: Round One and Round Two Winners:

Round One Winner: On or about November 24, 2015, Sponsor or its designated judges (whose decisions are final) will conduct a random drawing among all Round One entries which voted for each books picked by the judges in each of the Round One brackets to determine a Round One prize winner.

Round Two Winner: On or about January 19, 2015, Sponsor or its designated judges (whose decisions are final) will conduct a random drawing among all eligible Round Two entries which voted for each books picked by the judges in each of the Round One brackets to determine a Round One prize winner.

There will be no winner or prize for Round Three or the Final Round.

Round One and Round Two prize winners will be notified that they may have won a prize in this Contest by telephone or email on or about the respective dates listed above. Limit of one (1) Round prize per person. Round One and Round Two prize winners are also eligible to win the Grand Prize.

Grand Prize Winner: In order to be eligible to win the Grand Prize, you must have participated in each of the four Rounds and have voted for each of the books picked by the judges as the winner in each bracket in Round One, Round Two, Round Three and the Final Round (such entries, “Eligible Entries”). On April 13, 2015, Sponsor or its designated judges (whose decisions are final) will conduct a random drawing among all Eligible Entries to determine one (1) Grand Prize winner. In the event that there are no Eligible Entries, the random drawing to determine the Grand Prize winner will be made from the pool of entrants that voted for each of the books picked by the judges as the winner in each bracket in Round One, Round two and Round Three. The Grand Prize winner will be announced in the April 16, 2015 issue of The Chicago Reader. The Grand Prize winner, will also be notified that he/she may have won the Grand Prize in this Contest by telephone or email on or about April 13, 2015.

Any winner who does not provide a valid telephone number or email address will forfeit his/her prize. If any prize notification, prize, or Contest communication is rejected or returned as undeliverable or a winner cannot be reached after a reasonable attempt has been made by Sponsor (as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion), such winner may be disqualified and an alternate winner may be selected. Upon prize forfeiture, no compensation will be given. Each winner’s name and photograph may be published in any of Sponsor’s or its affiliates’ publications and/or on their websites.

4. PRIZES/ODDS: There will be one (1) Grand Prize, one (1) Round One prize and one (1) Round Two prize awarded.

The Round One and the Round Two prizes will each be one (1) $50.00 gift certificate from Barbara’s Bookstore. Approximate retail value of each of the Round One and the Round Two prize: $50.

The Grand Prize consists of:

one (1) seven-night trip to Riu Jalisco (the “Resort”), in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico for two (2) adults, including all transfers to/from the Resort, all food and drinks at the Resort, all non-motorized sports at the Resort and the assistance of an in-Resort Apple Vacations Representative, and

two (2) round-trip tickets from O’Hare International Airport (ORD) in Chicago, Illinois.

The Prize is valid for travel through August 1, 2015, black-out dates apply. Travel dates are final and will not be extended. Travel is not permitted during holiday periods, or for a five (5) day period before or after any holiday. Prize is valid for two (2) adults only per room and does not include any special promotions. No room upgrades will be allowed. Winner must be at least 21 years old and winner’s travel companion must be eighteen (18) years of age or older as of the date of travel.

Approximate retail value of Grand Prize: $2,500.

Approximate retail value of all Prizes (Round One, Round Two and Grand Prize): $2,650.

Actual value of Grand Prize may vary. Winner will not receive difference between actual and approximate retail value. Failure to use any prize after it has been accepted by the winner will not excuse the winner from having to pay taxes on the prize accepted.

Odds of winning depend on number of eligible entries received. A prize legitimately claimed will be awarded. No transfers, prize substitutions or cash redemptions will be made, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. In addition, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to substitute a prize (or portion thereof) of comparable or greater value whether due to the unavailability of the prize or prize component, or for any other reason. Prizes are non-refundable, non-transferrable and non-exchangeable and must be accepted as awarded. No more than the stated number of prizes will be awarded. Sponsor will not replace any lost, mutilated, or stolen gift cards or tickets.

All state, federal, and local taxes, as well as any expenses and incidental travel costs not specified in these Official Rules, are the sole responsibility of the winner, including, without limitation, fuel surcharges, gratuities, ground transportation, insurance, baggage fees, optional excursions, spa treatments, phone calls, souvenirs and any expenses related to travel to and from Chicago, Illinois. The Grand Prize winner may be required to provide a credit card at the time of hotel check-in to cover, among other things, incidentals and other expenses incurred that are not included as part of the Grand Prize.

By entering this Sweepstakes and accepting a prize, the winner agrees to maintain his/her behavior in accordance with all applicable laws and generally accepted social practices in connection with participation in any Contest activity, including use of the Prize. The winner understands and agrees that Sponsor and its promotional partners have the right, in their sole discretion, to disqualify and remove the winner or his/her guest from any activity at any time if the winner or his/her guest’s behavior at any point is disruptive or may or does cause damage to person, property or the reputation of Sponsor or otherwise violates the policies of the prize providers.

The winner of the Grand Prize will be required (in Sponsor’s sole discretion) to sign and return a claim form and an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release and an IRS form W-9 within ten (10) days of receipt or the Grand Prize may be forfeited. The Grand Prize winner’s guest will also be required (in Sponsor’s sole discretion) to sign a liability/publicity release as directed by Sponsor. In the event of noncompliance with any of the foregoing requirements, the Grand Prize may be forfeited. All prize claims, affidavits of eligibility and liability/publicity releases are subject to verification by Sponsor and/or its promotional partners.

5. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY/DISCLAIMERS: By entering entrant agrees to release, defend, hold harmless and indemnify Sponsor, its promotional partners and their respective parent(s), subsidiaries, affiliates, contractors, managers, officers, employees and agents against any and all liability, damages or causes of action (however named or described), with respect to or arising out of any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind caused by the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of a prize awarded in the Contest, including but not limited to any claims for damage to property, personal injury, death or claims based on defamation, rights of privacy, rights of publicity or merchandise delivery. False or deceptive entries or acts will render the entrant ineligible. By entering, entrant further agrees that (a) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, consequential, or any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses; (b) all causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, or any prize awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; and (c) any and all claims, judgments, and award shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, excluding attorneys’ fees and court costs. WARNING: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES OR OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH ATTEMPT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. Sponsor is not responsible for any printing or typographical errors in these Official Rules or any other materials associated with the Contest.

Entrants enter at their own risk and Sponsor is not responsible for and shall not be liable for any condition caused by events beyond their control that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted. Failure to comply with these Official Rules may result in disqualification from this Contest. Sponsor reserves the right to permanently disqualify any person it believes has violated these Official Rules.

6. GENERAL RULES: By entering the Contest (except where prohibited by law), entrants consent to the use of their names, pictures, likenesses, voices, biographical data, and/or any information contained in their entry in advertising, promotion and marketing materials throughout the world, in any medium now or hereafter invented, including on the internet, by Sponsor, its promotional partners, and third party marketing entities, without additional compensation, notification, review, or approval. Sponsor’s decisions will be final in all matters related to this Contest, the interpretation of these Official Rules and awarding of the prizes. If the Contest is not capable of running as planned for any reason, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend the Contest. DO NOT call Sponsor or its promotional partners, as this Contest will not be discussed by phone, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion.

7. WINNERS’ LIST: For the name of the winners, send a legal-size, self-addressed, stamped envelope to: “The Greatest Ever Chicago Book Contest” Winners’ List, 350 N. Orleans St., 10th Floor, Chicago, IL 60654. Requests must be received no later than three (3) months following the close of the Contest.

8. CHOICE OF LAW/VENUE. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of the Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of entrant and Sponsor in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Illinois, U.S.A., without giving effect to the conflict of laws rules thereof, and any matters or proceedings shall take place in the State of Illinois, in the City of Chicago.
