Re: “Mayor Rahm will gladly take all the credit even if someone else does the work

No one who rides the Red Line on the North Side, or the Brown Line, would ever say that Chicago's "L" runs on time! Of course Rahm never rides the CTA, so what does he care?

Re: “Transforming Pullman into a national park

"What's the alternative?" A good question.
A few weeks ago I heard on public radio (can't find it now, sorry) a discussion of Whole Foods entry into Englewood and pointing out that only the lowest-level jobs go to people from the neighborhood. This was contrasted with a program in The Bronx, NY, which encouraged local entrepreneurship, producing products that were sold locally and also placed in large stores. So that more income stayed in the neighborhood instead of going to the Big Box bosses. This may be it http://www.whedco.org/Community-and-Econom… though I am not sure.

Re: “Transforming Pullman into a national park

This article talks about Wallmart and Whole Foods as though they were good things, rather than soulless destroyers of neighborhoods.

Re: “Think a vote for Trump is a vote against the machine? Think again.

Ben neglects to mention that since Illinois is a solid blue state, one can vote for Jill Stein and thus send a message to the Dem establishment - a message that they will ignore, of course, though at their long-term peril - without in any way risking a Trump victory in this state.

Re: “The Ghost Research Society haunts a suburban Chicago house

What keeps him going after all these years, he says, is the pursuit of "that aha momentor that aha piece of video or audiotape that I could bring to the public and say, 'Here, I believe, is definitive proof that something exists beyond the grave.'"
Which of course will never happen, since it is all bullshit - and he has devoted his life to bullshit. His choice, of course.

Re: “Frank Zappa was so left, he was right

My second sentence would have been clearer as
"including detestation of Reagan, and agreement with entitlement to 'the benefits of large-scale services which only a Federal Government can provide'"
Sorry for my careless phrasing.

Re: “Frank Zappa was so left, he was right

"'I'm a conservative,' Frank Zappa told Washington Times columnist John Lofton"
But as you know from The Real Frank Zappa Book his definition of "conservative" was idiosyncratic, including detestation of Reagan and entitlement to "the benefits of large-scale services which only a Federal Government can provide" - very different from the Pauls' lunatic notions.
And you characterize him as an entrepreneur, but his interviews in the movie and his various writings make it clear that he was first and foremost a musician, who got into the record label business to prevent getting ripped off aesthetically as well as financially.
All in all, not a particularly accurate review.
