Joyful children live forever on the Blue Planet, free of adults and in harmony with the natural world. But their lives are upended when a grown-up named Jolly-Goodday convinces them to want more than they have: for the mere price of their youth, he offers flying powder, Teflon spray (so they never need to bathe), even 24 hours of sunshine. On a subsequent adventure to the other side of the globe, Hulda (Sarah Scanlon; no relation) and Brimir (Joshua Davis) discover yet another trade-off—the children there now live in perpetual darkness. Adapted from an award-winning children’s book by the Icelandic author Andri Snaer Magnason and directed by Wm. Bullion, Akvavit Theatre’s idiosyncratic, eco-conscious production features puppets, aerial arts, and gobs of wisdom. —Suzanne Scanlon
