Crime drama, Docudrama
A fictional treatment of the infamous 2002 Beltway snipers, this indie drama is long on ambience and mercifully short on violent action sequences. Isaiah Washington stars as an unemployed vet whose rage boils over after his ex-wife moves away with their three children. He takes an abandoned youngster (Tequan Richmond of Everybody Hates Chris) under his wing, and upon learning the kid is an excellent marksman, hatches a plan to settle some scores. Although the actors are fine, writer-director Alexandre Moors's feature debut suffers from a lulling tonal sameness; the landscape is gun-metal gray throughout the killers' odyssey from Tacoma to D.C., relieved only by Tim Blake Nelson's semicomic turn as Washington's army buddy.
