Blood Dolphin Presents: Amusements

When: Sundays. Continues through June 12 2011
Price: $5
Blood Dolphin isn't a 3-D horror movie or a White Zombie tribute band. It's two women (Carrie Shemanski and Erin Thorn) armed with banjos, tambourines, and the creative chops to improvise songs and scenes based on audience suggestions like "Joey" and "mittens." The scenes are fearlessly eccentric, but with enough charm and narrative movement to keep them from leaving the audience behind. There's a different guest act each week. I saw the hilariously strange Aggie and Irene, who purport to offer "the Catskills' finest sketch comedy." Aggie Hewitt and Irene Marquette explored best friendship--and best friendship's underlying tensions--through, among other things, a makeover that turned into a powder fight. --Brian Costello
