Adventure, Thriller
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre in a can. Fired by a salvage company, a veteran submarine commander (Jude Law) accepts an assignment from a shadowy Russian oligarch to recover two tons of gold bricks that were loaned to Nazi Germany by the Soviet Union in 1941 but then sank to the bottom of the Black Sea. The captain sets off with a fractious crew of greedy sea dogs, and before long they're all brushing up on their long-division skills. Screenwriter Dennis Kelly infuses all this with a heavy dose of proletarian rage, and Law exudes enough charisma in the lead role to supply the movie with one marginally likable character. Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland) directed; with Scoot McNairy.
