Though they’re often called “experimental,” Brooklyn trio Black Dice have a comfortable kind of freakishness. They’re fluent in time-honored space-age idioms like controlled dissonance, shifting layers of repeated noises, and nightmarish vocal processing—they sound a little like early Philip Glass, albeit juiced up with aggression and perversity—but they’re too fun-loving to slam us with a full-frontal view of the meaningless void. Their brand-new Repo (Paw Tracks) is like a Goya painting invaded by the cast of Sailor Moon, mixing robot-army rhythms and jagged blurts of hacksaw guitar with chipmunk vocals, synthesized tuba, and aqueous burbles reminiscent of Bay Area goofballs Tipsy; it turns on a dime from psychotic breakdown to cheery mania. Wolf Eyes open. —Ann Sterzinger
