If this concert proves half as good as expected, the Vic should install seat belts. Bill Bruford's resume, which includes stops with Yes, Genesis, and King Crimson, has long stamped him as the thinking man's rock drummer. But serious jazz fans ought to take note, too: Bruford's band, as displayed on their tremendous recent LP, range from jazz liquefaction to a particularly sophisticated brand of fusion in which electro-drums and driving rock rhythms never overshadow the unexpected compositions or Iain Ballamy's uncompromised saxophones. In rock terms, Bruford may be growing into one of the music's grand old men, but he's assembled three especially bright lights of the burgeoning British jazz scene; the results are incandescent. Sunday, Vic Theatre, 3145 N. Sheffield; 472-0449.
