Rated R · 101 minutes · 2013

Documentary
This documentary portrait of the famous 50s pinup model contends that Page was a progressive figure because she always controlled how her body was objectified. That's such a provocative premise that one wishes the movie explored it in greater depth—the interviewees, however lively, rarely get beyond superficial acclaim for Page's work and charming character. Likewise, the filmmakers devote hardly any time to some of the most fascinating chapters in Page's life, like her postmodeling conversion to fundamentalist Christianity or her treatment for paranoid schizophrenia in the 80s. There are some insightful close readings of Page's S-M-themed photographs; they hint at the more substantial work this could have been. Mark Mori directed.
