Let's get this compact disc pricing issue resolved once and for all [Letters, September 30 and October 21].

The retailers pay an average of $8 to $9 per single disc, sometimes less. No question. They say otherwise, they're lying or they're stupidly buying from the wrong people. Use those costs as a basis to do your shopping from. The closer a retailer is to the aforementioned costs--the better for you. It's as simple as that. If it means abandoning the true music stores and shopping at the appliance dealers, then so be it. Let's face it, you're not going to stop buying music, so you might as well shop for the best deals. The music companies know there will never be a successful nationwide boycott to force down the prices. So, let the principles of retailing competition work for you.
