Best Two-Fisted Sports Columnist

Rick Telander

suntimes.com/sports/telander

In newspapers, anger is often just a pose. But the fury that wafts off the page whenever the Sun-Times’s Rick Telander writes about drugs in sports is genuine, even obsessive: when tiny, singles-hitting Ryan Theriot hit a couple homers for the Cubs in one game a year ago, Telander began his column, “Sorry, Ryan Theriot, you’re a suspect.” His point is that until sports are cleaned up, everyone’s a suspect. Telander damns the players, the executives, and even—or especially—the sportswriters who merely strike poses.
