Best teammate on a pro sports team who hardly ever plays

Brian Scalabrine of the Bulls

His final stats for the 2010-2011 NBA season aren't pretty: 18 games, 4.9 minutes per game, 1.1 points per game, 0.4 rebounds per game. But the value of a teammate like Brian Scalabrine should not be underestimated. Signed to a nonguaranteed contract by the Bulls last fall, Scalabrine became perhaps the Bulls' biggest cheerleader, literally, and a fan favorite even while sitting on the bench in street clothes. And it's hard not to root for a six-foot-nine redheaded dude. Scalabrine reportedly had dinner with Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau and forward Luol Deng after the season ended. Let's hope that means he'll be back cheering on the bench again. —Jerome Ludwig
