Best place for ambience and egg sandwiches

Billy Goat Tavern

430 N. Michigan

Maybe it's because I'm a working-class writer gal who's prone to becoming nostalgic for olden days I wasn't around to experience, but I think the Billy Goat's got the best vibe of any place in the city. I like how it's tucked away in a dark and somewhat desolate part of downtown, how unpretentious it is, and how the counter servers tease you good-naturedly before giving you your soda. I'm also a fan of its egg sandwiches, which are simple, supercheap, and filling. —Lauri Apple
