John Van Druten's overwritten, old-fashioned 1950 comedy is rendered even slower and creakier in this insufferable revival from Paradise Playhouse. Packed with flat line readings, uninteresting entrances, and scenes that fail to build, the predictable tale of a Manhattan sorceress who bewitches a man only to become spellbound herself unfolds with the gracelessness of an unhappy marriage. It doesn't help that romantic leads Jillann Gabrielle and Bato Prostran seem so mismatched and generate so few sparks that they hardly seem like friends much less lovers. Still, the production offers a couple noteworthy performances: Dee Norman and David Bontumasi are charming as a daffy old witch and her mischievous, bohemian warlock son. —Jack Helbig
