Abused by her boyfriend, Chloe quit law school and now she hardly leaves the house. Her penniless friend Greg dotes on her, hoping for a tender word but certain he's too homely to deserve it. Her mother, Madelynne, wants Chloe to marry rich, handsome Jason, her abusive ex, and threatens suicide if Chloe considers a romance with Greg. And Chloe's drunk, terminally ill grandmother Eileen tells everyone how awful they are. If you're thinking Eugene O'Neill, you're mostly right; Scott Woldman's drama dissects a family as pitiless, pathological, and pathetic as the Tyrones. But with so much unnecessary narration from nerdy Greg, the tragedy gets packaged as a quirky indie film, and Woldman can't adequately develop his characters before they start going haywire. —Justin Hayford
