Action/Adventure, Animation
Directed by Aristomenis Tsirbas, this 3D computer animation is more otherworldly than most sci-fi films, and its environmentally conscious theme couldn't be more timely. Terra, a planet whose people live in harmony with nature, is invaded by humans, the last survivors of wars that destroyed Earth and its two colonies, Venus and Mars. A brave, inventive young Terrian (given voice by Evan Rachel Wood) befriends a downed human fighter pilot (Luke Wilson) and enlists him to help defend her world. The exotic plant and animal life is enhanced by the 3D process?which makes the two-dimensional screenplay all the more disappointing. With its weighty dialogue the movie becomes depressing well before the final violent showdown. With Brian Cox, James Garner, Danny Glover, and Mark Hamill. PG, 85 min.
