A showcase for generally unknown pro, semipro, and student directors, this monthlong event features productions ranging from established classical and contemporary selections to untested material, all in the service of what Bailiwick press materials proclaim "a new world vision." Bailiwick Repertory, Bailiwick Arts Center, 1229 W. Belmont, 883-1090. Through October 26: Mondays-Thursdays, 7:30 PM. $8 per program; each program features two or three one-acts packaged under a single title.

The Reader runs festival listings on a week-by-week basis; here is the schedule for October 9 through 12.

Stylistically Speaking

Text for Nothing is a Samuel Beckett text adapted and directed by Michael Hoffman; Bevakasha, written by Richard Fanny and directed by Gordon Hoffman, concerns "three people digging a hole in the dark, deep forest."

Theater of Sight and Sound

German avant-garde playwright Peter Handke's Offending the Audience is directed by Cynthia Croot; and Michael Agnew's multimedia staging of Urfaust, the 1775 first draft of Goethe's Faust, incorporates texts by Christopher Marlowe and Gertrude Stein.

New Beginnings

Aaron Testard directs Panic Love, Bridget Conley's play about "a man, a woman, [and] a gas station"; Greg Owens stages his script Pastime, "a full contact comedy about sports and violence"; and Brian Ness's new play Wrought With Slaughterous Thoughts, about a pair of runaways, is directed by Laura Keepley.

Intriguing Assortments

Peter Handke's The Person I Once Was, directed by Nancy Sheeber, depicts "a loving and painful coming of age for two sisters and a homeless man"; and Domenick Danza directs Eleemosynary, Lee Blessing's play about the relationship among three generations of women.
