Re: “Polo Cafe & Catering

Echoes of Vintage Chicago

From the outside, it’s nothing special, but once inside the entrance of the Polo Café you’ll be transported to Chicago in its heydays, with this classy ol’ Chicago neighborhood restaurant. Pictures of Bridgeport mayors of the past and present adorn the place--including a great black and white photo of Pope John Paul II with the 1st Mayor Daley, back when the late pontiff was just a lowly cardinal visiting the faithful in the 1960’s. The atmosphere is casual yet elegant, and the restaurant has many kid friendly attractions, including large statues of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Owner/Chef Dave Samber’s unique collection of vintage dolls.

Along with the great atmosphere (Frank Sinatra and the Andrews Sisters playing in the background), the waitstaff is always friendly and never intrusive. But the main attraction is definitely the food! The penne in vodka sauce, the braised lamb chops, the salmon filet, the garlic mashed potatoes, and the crème brulée are all excellent. However, the best of the best is, by far, the gorgonzola cheese & spinach stuffed filet mignon--absolutely to die for and well worth the price. My favorite restaurant for steak in Chicago used to be Gene & Georgetti's--it’s now Polo Café. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough. No doubt one of my favorite restaurants in all of Chicago. On top of it all, Chef Dave actually comes out and greets the patrons, asking you for your suggestions and generally making you feel at home.
