Christopher Durang's absurdist domestic comedy opens on a pair of unstable parents who have no idea what to do with their new baby—whose sex they don’t even know, because they're too nervous to check. In his first week of life the baby is screamed at, kidnapped, almost eaten by a dog, and nearly hit by a bus. The pacing of this Fury Theatre production is odd, the tone veers between slapstick and pathos, and plenty simply makes no sense. Act one resembles a 1940s comedic film: affected accents, rapid-fire dialogue, and a hilarious performance from Rebecca Sparks as a deranged nanny. The heart of the show is the second act, in which the now-grown baby comes to terms with his upbringing. A final scene between the young man (Jack Swokowski) and his mother (Alyssa Ratkovich) serves as a reminder of how deep the scars of childhood can run. —Brianna Wellen
