Babes in Toyland

Walt Disney's 1961 version of the Victor Herbert operetta is a flat, stagy, artificially cheerful affair that falls far short of the memorably creepy Laurel and Hardy version of 1934. Ray Bolger seems out of his range as the cackling Victorian villain who tries to mount a putsch in Santa's Toyland; Annette Funicello and Tommy Sands are the colorless leads. With Ed Wynn and Ann Jillian; Jack Donohue directed.
