Asumaya, Blake Zweig, Rob Reid

When: Sun., Aug. 8, 7 p.m. 2010
Phone: 773-929-3680
Two singer/songwriter/loop pedal artists influenced by African music share a bill with a fingerstyle guitarist/songwriter citing Paul Simon and the Red House Painters as influences. Chicagoan Rob Reid (http://www.myspace.com/illinoisbovineexplosion) will be performing with “El Papagayo Grande,” an electronic parrot which repeats his African-influenced vocals, percussion, and guitar as a backdrop for songs about real and fictional characters involved in such endeavors as riding public transit in West Africa, surviving lightning strikes, and holding up banks. Asumaya, “a single throat and four appendages attempting to multiply themselves like cells,” opens the bill at 7 PM (http://www.myspace.com/asumayasongs), followed by Blake Zweig (http://www.myspace.com/blakezweig).
